Rep. Farr hails funds to support homeless veterans PDF Print

Washington, DCCongressman Sam Farr (D-Carmel) today hailed the announcement from Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Secretary Shaun Donovan and the Department of Veteran Affairs Secretary Eric Shinseki that HUD will provide $72.6 million to public housing agencies across the country to supply permanent housing and case management to more than 10,000 homeless veterans. As part of the housing assistance program, the Central Coast will receive a total of $775,878 through the Housing Authority of Monterey County and Santa Cruz County.

“Our veterans have fulfilled their service, now it is time for our nation to fulfill its promise and responsibility to meet their needs,” said Congressman Sam Farr. “These funds will have a major impact in our ability to address the important issue of veteran homelessness. Providing a roof over their heads is a basic and critical step towards getting veterans off the streets and into the path of leading healthy lives after their service.”

The Housing Authority of Monterey will receive $190,775 and the Housing Authority of Santa Cruz will receive $585,103, to assist veterans.

The permanent supportive housing assistance is provided through HUD’s Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing Program (HUD-VASH), a program administered by HUD, VA, and local housing agencies across the country.
