Washington, DC Congressman Sam Farr (D-CA) issued the following statement after California State University, Monterey Bay (CSUMB) was announced as a Presidential Award winner of the 2010 President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll. The President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll, launched in 2006, annually recognizes institutions of higher education for their commitment to and achievement in community service.

“With a great sense of pride and honor, I want to congratulate CSUMB for receiving the extraordinary distinction of the 2010 President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll award.

CSUMB is serving as a national example of community service, grounded in the spirit of helping others and uplifting those in need of a helping hand. Demonstrating the best of our values of selflessness and compassion, I’m certain that this award will undoubtedly help promote and inspire volunteerism for the next generation of youth on the Central Coast.

I want to thank the CSUMB students and faculty for not only delivering a great sense of pride to the Central Coast, but through your service, working to improve our communities.”

The award is being honored in conjunction with the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS). CNCS is the federal agency that engages more than five million Americans in service through Senior Corps, AmeriCorps, and Learn and Serve America.
