STATEMENT: Congressman Farr on the President's Immigration Announcement PDF Print

Washington, DC Congressman Sam Farr (D-Carmel) issued the following statement today on President Obama’s decision to allow the Department of Homeland Security to exercise prosecutorial discretion when enforcing the nation’s immigration laws on young people who were brought to this country as children.

“Children who were raised here and have worked hard—either through pursuit of their education or by serving in the military—should not have to live under the constant fear of deportation,” said Congressman Sam Farr.  “I applaud the President’s decision today which brings us one step closer to a sensible immigration policy. This decision allows the opportunity for many immigrants to come out of the shadows and continue to be productive members of their community. We still have a lot of work to do, from passing the DREAM Act to enacting practical immigration reform, so that families here on the Central Coast and throughout the United States are able to achieve the same American dream that generations before them realized.”
